Vitamin C - All That You Should Know

In order to promote normal growth and development besides a sense of well being, Vitamin C is one of the most popular vitamins recommended to individuals by medical practitioners across the globe.
The water-soluble vitamin is essential for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body besides demonstrating efficacy in healing of wounds, and repair and maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth. Vitamin C is also required by the human body to form collagen, an important protein used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels.
This vitamin is also one of many antioxidants (some other are Vitamin E and beta-carotene) and block some of the damage caused by free radicals that are by-products that result when our bodies transform food into energy. It is worth noting that accumulation of free radicals, over a period of time, can lead to health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and a host of inflammatory conditions like arthritis.

Since the human body does not provide this vitamin on its own, human beings should take plenty of vitamin C-containing foods in the daily diet. For this, green peppers, citrus fruits and juices, strawberries, tomatoes, broccoli, turnip greens and other leafy greens, sweet and white potatoes, cantaloupe, papaya, mango, watermelon, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, winter squash, red peppers, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, and pineapples are excellent options. These food products are rich in Vitamin C and can help you create and maintain high standards of growth and development.
