The rash caused by chickenpox can be very uncomfortable. Even though the severity of the rash does vary from person to person, efforts must be made to minimize scratching the rash to prevent any sort of bacterial infection from the fingernails or on the skin of hands. The spreading the rash can make it more severe. Even it may cause the spreading of the rash to others who have not had chickenpox.
The itching from the chickenpox rash can be treated at home with lotions, baths, and non prescription medications. Any consultation with the child’s health professional would be a nice move.
Chicken pox rash
Chickenpox (varicella) is a contagious illness affected as a result of varicella-zoster virus, a type of herpes virus. The initial symptoms of chicken pox are fever, loss of appetite, fatigue, headache, and sore throat. The chickenpox rash usually develops within a day or two.
It is very itchy and begins with red spots or bumps that transforms into pimple like blisters filled with a cloudy liquid. The blisters then burst out, causing the fluid to leak. Never should try to scratch the rash with fingernails. It can cause the spreading of bacteria from your skin or from under your nails and infect the rash. The chickenpox rash can be treated at home. Chickenpox is a skin infection. The scratching of the blisters that are formed from the chickenpox rash can become infected from the bacteria on the hands and under fingernails.
Scratching the rash can cause scars which may spread easily to other parts of the body.
In addition to causing a skin infection, scratching the chickenpox rash can create open sores and make the rash more severe, last longer, and cause scars. A chickenpox rash with open sores can also sometimes spread more easily to other people who have never had chickenpox. It is there fore advisable not to scratch the rash.
