Unhealthy foods become cheaperEver noticed why many of us prefer pizzas, burgers, salty chips and other junk foods rather than the healthy veggies? This is because we actually have to pay more for the healthy stuff.
Researchers at the University of Washington have found that low-calorie and nutrient-rich foods are more expensive than the junk foods laden with calories. These junk foods are actually becoming cheaper.
In recent studies, the average price of the low calorie foods including green vegetables, berries and tomatoes have increased by 20 percent over the last two years. Meanwhile, the prices of high-calories fatty foods such as butter, potato chips, candies and cookies have reasonably dipped by 2 percent during the same time period.
No wonder why you find people hanging around Pizza huts and McDonalds to get their hands on the “happy price menus” and “value foods” just to add on extra flab.

Many studies have proved that fruits and vegetables have a lot of protective functions in your body as compared to red meat. But, the Western diet often makes meat the focus of the meal. Red meats in fact have adverse effects in your overall health. So, try to avoid red meats as far as possible. Instead, include vegetable and grains in your diet.

You should of course, enjoy a wide variety of nutritious food. Your Prostate diet should include plenty of breads, cereals, fruits, and dark colored vegetables. You should have at least 7 serves of fruit and vegetables each day to improve your Prostate health. The phytochemicals present in plants play an important role in nutrition. For instance, lycopene, the carotenoid found in tomatoes, is probably preventive for prostate cancer, and a range of other anti-oxidants in fruits also reinforce the effect of vitamins. Tomatoes cooked with olive oil, such as in spaghetti sauce, seem to be the most beneficial. According to recent study, Selenium and vitamin E may help prevent prostate cancer.

Your diet should also contain low fat content. This is because many population studies have revealed that saturated fats are related with cancer. In particular, saturated fats from animal products seem to be implicated. The polyunsaturated fats in vegetables seem to be related with Prostate cancer. On the other hand, monosaturated oils are preferable. Hence, limiting the consumption of the unwanted fats reduce the risk of Prostate cancer.

Carbohydrates:
People often think twice to include carbohydrate in their diet. The truth is that though carbohydrates increase blood sugar level, Diabetics need carbohydrates in every meal. The best sources are oats, beans, sweet potato. White bread and mashed potatoes should be avoided.

Proteins:
Limit eggs to three a week because they contain cholesterol and saturated fats. Omega-3 oil-enriched fish is recommended. Go for lean meats.

Fat:
Saturated fat is a strict no-no. Olive oil serves the best. Cut down your cheese intake to half or eat a reduced- fat version.

Fruits:
Try to eat no more than a handful of fruits. Choose the fruits with low GI (Glycaemic Index). Replace watermelon with apples, oranges and a few grapes.
