![]() |
People are highly sensitive to the negative effects of caffeine and often neglect its heath benefits. (Hey, excess of anything is harmful, so why there is so much of bad publicity for caffeine?) Therefore, we dedicate this article to coffee lovers among the readers, their cups of coffee and their liver! Yup, coffee is beneficial for your liver! Read on to explore the benefits of the appetizing cups of coffee.
Many studies show that coffee is beneficial for your liver. A population based study found that drinking caffeine containing drinks like coffee had a protective effect for those at risk of developing liver disease. The study concluded that people who drank more than 2 cups of coffee a day had a 44% lower chance of showing actual liver damage compared to those who drank no caffeine.
Another study conducted in 2005 drew similar conclusions. It found that drinking 3 cups of coffee a day could lower the risk of death from liver cirrhosis.
According to a recent study, people drinking one cup of coffee per day were, on average, 20% less likely to develop alcoholic cirrhosis. For people drinking two or three cups the reduction was 40%, and for those drinking four or more cups of coffee a day the reduction in risk was 80%.
Coffee is found to be preventing liver cancer and cirrhosis (A degenerative disease of the liver often caused by alcoholism, but also may result from certain forms of hepatitis).
Nobody is suggesting that coffee is a cure for your liver disease but yes, the brew that you enjoy so much has some healthy attributes!
